A message from Ronald Piester, AIA, Director
New York State Department of State, Division of Code Enforcement and Administration
Due to circumstances beyond our control, it has become necessary to make some major revisions for the
remainder of the current training schedule through the end of this calendar year. As you may be aware, the
unfortunate loss of Bruce Plunkett and departure of Paul Andreassen has left a major gap in our training unit
and the prospect for replacing these positions is unlikely for the foreseeable future. Therefore, we have found
it necessary to cancel the following codes training courses:
Course # Title Date County
45-0029 Fire Protection Systems 10/8/08 Columbia
25-0040 Soils, Footings and Foundations 10/16/08 Tompkins
25-0044 Soils, Footings and Foundations 12/2/08 Clinton
28-0033 Motor Fuel-Dispensing Facilities and Repair Garages 12/9/08 Cattaraugus
29-0033 Inspection of High-Piled Combustible Storage 12/9/08 Cattaraugus
9A-0685 Introduction to Code Enforcement Practices – Part 1 10/21-23/08 Erie
9A-0686 Introduction to Code Enforcement Practices – Part 1 11/12-14/08 Greene
9A-0687 Introduction to Code Enforcement Practices – Part 1 12/2-4/08 Westchester
9A-0688 Introduction to Code Enforcement Practices – Part 1 12/2-4/08 Suffolk
9B-0684 Introduction to Code Enforcement Practices – Part 2 12/2-4/08 Erie
9B-0685 Introduction to Code Enforcement Practices – Part 2 12/2-4/08 Greene
These unfortunate changes were necessary due to an unavoidable reduction in Codes Division staff.
Previously registered students who are affected by these cancellations are in the process of being notified,
and we will make every effort to accommodate the individuals who have been directly affected by the
course cancellations. Also, a revised training calendar will be posted on our website shortly. Although it is
likely that the 2009 training schedule will be affected by this staff shortage, we will continue to work with
the Department of State to minimize the impact on scheduling of future codes courses.
